Short Story...

                                     “Get Me Out of Here!”
“Get me out of here!” exclaimed Private Pineda.
“Can someone shut that homesick loser up?” demanded PFC Santana.
“Hah. He won’t be quite. Not until he’s at home with his teddy bear collection,” said Corporal Rojas, with a smile on his scarred face.
“If you guys keep up that loud arguing going, there will be much to pay! Do you guys want to get us caught?” asked PFC Espinoza.
“Is something wrong here?” asked Staff Sergeant Rodriguez.
“No sir. Private Pineda here just misses his mommy,” joked PFC Santana.
The entire group burst into laughter. The five of them were walking through the mountains of Southern France, trying to find a good spot for a bunker. The mountains were completely free of all plant life, because of constant artillery shells being shot into the mountains. There were no signs of humans or animals crossing their paths for some time.
Private Pineda was a tall, heavy-set man with a five o’clock shadow. This was his first time in combat since D-Day. PFC Santana was a tall, beefy soldier, with light skin and brown hair. Corporal Rojas was a scary soldier. His light skin showed off the scars he got from shrapnel during the D-Day assault. He had the eyes of a killer and a heavy mustache that made him even scarier. PFC Espinoza was a taller, dark-skinned man. He was also new to combat on the front lines, and could hardly see, since he lost his glasses in an earlier skirmish. Staff Sergeant Rodriguez was the shortest one of the group, but had the most experience. You could tell he had been in battle many times by just looking at his ugly scars. He also talked in a way that seemed to command your attention. That is why he was in charge of this group. Although, he had one weakness. He would always lose focus when someone mentions his wife Veronica. He thought she was beautiful and always worried that he would not see her again.
“Alright, look alive, ladies. Although it may look like a total wasteland out here, but by information gathered, there may be possible German activity in the nearby areas,” explained Staff Sergeant Rodriguez.
“I want to go home… I want to go…” started Private Pineda, but before he could finish, he was suddenly cut off by a bullet through the skull.
“Aw. Gross,” stated PFC Espinoza, who was now covered in blood and brains.
“HIT THE FLOOR!” screamed Corporal Rojas, dropping faster than any other person next to him.
As Corporal Rojas gave those orders, a company of German soldiers appeared out of nowhere, firing their weapons. The remaining American soldiers lifted their rifles and began to fire back on the Germans. Being surrounded and out of ammo, S/Sgt. Rodriguez dove over to Pineda’s still body, and picked up his Browning light machine gun. He quickly set it up on the bipod and began to unload round after round on the Germans. No one ever knew if the American Soldiers ever survived the ambush, they were never heard of after that incident.
