                      Essay Prompt # 4

Prompt: In many countries, citizens are required to serve in the military for a year or more. Do you believe the Unites States should institute a similar practice? Why or why not/ use specific reason and examples to support your answer.

Many countries around the world force their citizens to serve in their military. I think this is wrong because not everyone has the capability to serve in the army. To serve in the army you have to want it and be prepared for it. When you’re not prepared for it, you’re just like a walking deer for the enemy to shoot down. A country that makes their citizens do this is, China. Their country is very big, which means that their military force is also vast in size. Although when most of the soldiers don’t know what to do, their vast army isn’t going to have a chance against one that is well prepared and have soldiers that volunteered to serve, such as the United States.

In order to have a good army, your soldiers need to be well trained and ready for war. Although when you force someone to serve in the military, they’re not ready, but scared instead. This is an ineffective way to build a strong military because none of the soldiers have the knowledge to be on a battlefield. To become a soldier you have to go through rigorous training, to learn the difficulties of war, and to know what to do in certain circumstances. When you don’t have any of this, it is very hard to survive a war.

A country that practices this is China. China is a very big country, which means it also has a big population. They require their citizens to serve in the military, even if they don’t want to. If China were to be involved in a war their military force would be huge compared to others, but it really as intimidation because most of their soldiers wouldn’t have as much training as other countries military forces. This is why China should not force people into their military and accept those that do, to train them to do their job as effective as possible.

The United States is a country that doesn’t enforce this policy, they only have brave men and women that have volunteered to serve in the military. I think it should stay like this because this country is made of freedom, and we should have the freedom to choose what we want to do with our lives. If that were to change then all the ideals and principles that make up this country wouldn’t mean anything anymore. Although this is why we have a great military, because we only have soldiers that have decided their ready and able to handle a rigorous training for a war zone. This is why I don’t think the U.S. should not institute this policy, which also would violate our rights.

The policy of countries making their own citizens serve for the military is unfair. China and also others countries, should let their citizens decide if they want to serve in the military, such as the United States. I think our policy for recruiting our soldiers is great, because no one should be forced to what could be their death for serving their country.
