Communications Affecting Our Interpersonal Skill...

                                                    Essay Prompt #5
Prompt: Many of us spend hours in front of our computers and communicate more by e-mail or instant messaging that in person. Some people believe this is good because it helps shy people communicate more openly with others. Others believe that computer communication prevents us from developing interpersonal skills and limits our ability to have meaningful relationships with others. How do you feel about this issue? Use specific reasons and examples to support you position.
During this technological era, many people rely on their computers to communicate with one another. It may be through e-mail or by chatting on a social network such as facebook. Many people are on their computers for hours, some even are on them all day. There are pros and cons to this, because people that are can look at their computers as their comfort zone, to say anything they want to. Although on the other side of things, people tend to lose their interpersonal skills, when they spend too much time chatting on their computers. I think that this issue has to be fixed before it gets worse, because our interpersonal skills are necessary through our lives, with or without computers.
Computers have come a long way since they were invented, they can now do almost anything you wish. Currently we have the internet, which has thousands of social networks, which people are constantly on. One of the most famous is called Facebook, this social network is one of the biggest in the world, because of the reason that so much people have subscribed to it. Many people say that this social network is like a drug or addictive, because they are on it so much and cannot stop logging on to it. This causes people to be on their computers for hours a day, some people do not even sleep to just be on Facebook. This is a problem because most of the time, these people are young teens, and these social networks distract them from their main goals in life.
A positive aspect of computers and social networks is that they help people that are insecure with themselves, or that are shy. When you are in a computer, no one knows who you really are, and people that are shy take advantage of this. It lets them describe themselves in way they cannot in the real world. Their computer is like their safe haven, or like their best friend that they have never had. That is why I think websites like Facebook, are good for people who are shy, to help them be themselves around everyone else.
On the down side, there is a problem that is getting bigger and bigger throughout time, dealing with computers and social networks. In this technological era, people spend more time talking on the computer by e-mail or by chatting on a social network, rather than actually speaking to a person. This is bad because when you spend too much time chatting, you lose your interpersonal skills, which are necessary to speak to another person. Interpersonal skills are needed when you get to the business world. You are going to need them when you get interviewed, to give a speech or presentation, or even to speak to your boss. When you do this, you want to talk in a polite but professional manner, and these skills slowly go away from some people when they spend too much time on their computers.
Computers throughout time are going to get better, faster, and create more problems similar to these. For now this is problem, of people losing their interpersonal skills, is not good as it is. Although for the most part, computers are not bad, they serve good to the people. It lets people express themselves, but most importantly it helps everyone complete tasks that would take a long time without a computer.
